What do ya think????

OK everyone I am debating something. I am trying to decide whether or not to make my blog private. It has been an inner battle with myself for a while now. There are lots of reasons to go private but it's been so much fun reconnecting with old friends and new friends. AHHHH what should I do? If I do decide to go private I would need all of your email addresses to invite you to it, but do I really want to?
Give me your input and let me know what you think...

This is a question I struggle with myself. So far I have opted not to go private because I can connect with so many more people. For the obvious reasons, we all worry about staying public. But what an influence for good you and your family are...and I'm so happy I get to check in on you now and then. You stand for everything good in this world and radiate such a wonderful example of loving motherhood and being joyfully married. Good luck deciding. If you you choose to go private, please let me be on your list!

If you feel unsafe in any way by all means go private. I do think that other people's blogs can be a blessing to others. Influence for good is a huge part of the decision. Good luck! Sorry not to be much help.

What are the reasons you are considering going private? Have you had someone stalking your blog or posting inappropriate messages? I should probably know the answer to this, but alas, I'm a blogging novice. -Brian

I think you should stay open!

I think everyone should stay open, unless they have a specific reason not to.

I think you should block the Dairmans and leave it open to everyone else.

This is definitely a personal decision. But I will leave my 2 cents. I struggled with going private for a while. I finally made the decision to go private when I added sitemeter to my blog. I couldn't believe all the people, from all over the world, that somehow got to my blog. So I googled "handsome hair" because I had a post title "Handsome Hair vs Smooth Head" and MY BLOG was on the first page of results. It was then that I could see how easy it was to pull my blog up on any search engine. And because I talk about my kids and family, I didn't want their info out there for anyone to see, whenever they wanted to. So, I chose to go private. I was bummed because I have reconnected with friends, but I still manage to reconnect through facebook. Anywho...you should do what's the most pressing for you. I will admit, it is nice to look around at other blogs. Some are hilarious.

Cassie, I'm not sure if you knew this but there is a feature to make your's more private without totally going private. You go into settings and click where it says let search engines find you to NO. This way, when I google your blog, it doesn't come up there. That's one way to help keep a lot of strangers from the blog.

I went private, b/c Doug says I blab too much information! Go figure. When I do Christmas cards, I will invite those that want to to email me their addresses & I will send them the invite.Yes Christmas is coming.

We just had a discussion about that during combined RS/priesthood last week. The instructors were technologically savvy brethren who really encouraged privacy. There are some weird people out there. Anything can be used against you. They also warned about downloading "free" applications and ad-ons like glitter messages, etc. Those come with a lot of spyware and malware apps. Call me paranoid, but I'd rather err on the side of caution. As soon as I get my blog up, (one of these days, I promise) I will go private. The Christmas card idea is a good one. A good way to find people is Facebook; find them and then invite them to your blog.
