Today I am Sad...

Allan James LaRue
June 18, 1941-July 30, 2009

My dad...The greatest grandpa ever!!!
Today I am sad. At 12:00 noon my hero, the man I have looked up to, respected and who has taught me more about being a good person than anyone, passed away from this life. My dad, Allan James LaRue had fought for too long the battle of cancer. But I know that he is in a good place with those he loves. I also believe that he received a warm hero's welcome upon arrival. My dad was always a gentle giant to me. He never said an unkind word or spoke ill of anyone. He was a man of integrity and honesty. He was a provider both spiritually and physically. He had a sense of humor that was so quarky you had to laugh at him not always with him. My dad served anyone and everyone, all of the time. He taught me to respect my mom and I have gained more respect for my mom over the last couple of months than I have in a lifetime! She is amazing!!! They shared a love for one another that was truly unique. My dad would do anything for my mom and did just that. I never remember them argueing, fighting or raising their voices at each other, they truly loved and respected each other all 47 years together. One thing that I could always count on with my dad was each and every night that I returned home from a date as a teenager my dad would be standing up, in front of the TV (so he wouldn't fall asleep) waiting for me. Just so I would know that he was there if I ever wanted to talk...about anything. There was never a doubt in my mind how much he loved me and my four sisters.
My kids have been blessed to have really great memories of my dad. My parents were able to travel with us on our vacations. We loved having grandma and grandpa along. We have some wonderful memories of these trips that we will always cherish.
What a great example to my kids that Grandpa and Grandma were able to serve a mission to Rochester, NY 2007.
We have been able to have some very sweet, tender, spiritual moments this last week, ones that I will be forever grateful for and will never forget. I am so blessed to have wonderful friends and family who have called, visited, dropped by flowers, food and cards. Thank you!

I heard from Dianne and when I heard I instantly thought about you and wondered how you were. Cassie, always remember that our Heavenly Father loves you. He is right beside you all the time. He knows the saddness that you are feeling too. The weeks, months and years ahead will be different, if not weird at times. The void is real and the loneliness is deep. Know that your Dad is happy and not in anymore pain. You are an eternal family and you will see your Dad again. Please give your mother my love.
